Upon arrival at the airport in Rio de Janeiro, you will be met and driven to the world famous Copacabana Palace.

Take the afternoon to hit the beach and rest up for your evening tour of the “Marvelous City”. .

Day 3

Breakfast at hotel. Flight to São Luis. Private transfer to the Sao Luis Park Hotel.

São Luís, the capital of the state of Maranhao, is blessed by the sun all year round. It is a city with unpretentious colonial charm and rich folkloric tradition – definitely a high-light in the Northeast. Strolling around the cobblestone streets of São Luís is like traveling in time, for it is the only Brazilian capital founded by the French and colonized by the Portuguese, showing this mixture in all its faces.

In the afternoon you will have a private tour of the best sights of the city. .

Day 4

Breakfast at hotel. Full day tour of Alcantara, across the channel. Your boat will pick you up at 9, to take you to Alcantara, chosen as a National Patrimony in 1948, for its beauty and historical significance. On the tour you will see the mansions and ruins strewn along 3 beaches, and 10 streets, memories of the Portuguese colonization. .

Day 5

Breakfast at hotel. Morning transfer to Barreirinhas by charter plane (GREAT photo opportunities!)

When you first see aerial images of Lençóis Marenhenses, you will believe that you are looking at clouds set against the clear blue sky. In reality, they are multicolored freshwater lagoons that create glimmering oasis between thousands of rolling sand dunes, rich in wildlife and where the temperature is deliciously agreeable. Its territory embraces 155 thousand hectares and a perimeter of 170 miles, an area equivalent to the city of Sao Paulo.

Check in at Porto Preguicas Resort.

Afternoon 4 x 4 safari tour of the Lencois National Park, stopping to take a dip in two of the many crystaline lagoons.

Day 6

Breakfast at hotel.

After breakfast, take a comfortable motor boat ride on the Preguiças River (Lazy River) where you will experience first hand the laid back atmosphere of this region. You will visit a part of the Environmental Protection Area (APA), making a few stops along the way for short walks in the dunes and to visit the small fishing villages of Vassouras and Mandacaru, with its lighthouse and wonderful view of the surrounding area. The final stop before returning to the hotel will be at the untouched beach of Caburé. .

Day 7

Breakfast at hotel. Flight to Sao Luis airport and on to Campo Grande / Pantanal.

Private transfer to Refugio Ecologico Caiman, the most luxurious lodge in the Pantanal. Transfer is along scenic dirt roads (about 4 hours.)

Welcome drink and reception at the lodge, followed by an orientation tour. .

Day 8

Following breakfast at the lodge, a tour in an open vehicle is the best way to reach outlying areas. Crossing fields and stretches of jungle, this tour offers opportunities to observe and photograph wild life.

After lunch, take a guided hike on one of the many trails through the heavy bush. The hikes make it easy to observe forest vegetation and the animals that live there, like “quatis” (raccoon-like mammals) and monkeys. There are approximately 12 different hikes, which are taken on different days to ensure as little disturbance as possible to the animals in each area. The hikes depart from the hotel, or are part of the photo safari. .

Day 9

After breakfast, it’s time for a horseback ride. This is one of the best ways to explore the Pantanal, allowing for visits to flooded areas, which are inaccessible by other means, where the water is too deep for motorized vehicles or too shallow for boats. The horses of the Pantanal, which are raised in the region, are stout, strong, have water-resistant skin, and are adapted to crossing long stretches of flooded fields, and are trained for inexperienced riders.

In the afternoon, take a canoe ride. On these tours, mammals such as capybaras and monkeys can be seen. The birds that commonly inhabit the area are: cormorants, anhingas, skimmers, herons and egrets. The sounds of the animals and birds will fill your senses. Guests on the tours travel through the Pantanal to the sounds of toucans, herons, parakeets, jacanas and kingfishers and with luck capuchin and howler monkeys.

On any night, it is possible to go "night spotting" to observe nocturnal animals, such as alligators, capybaras, anteaters, small wolves etc. This tour is done in open vehicles with the help of flashlights. .
